CLOSED GEOMETRIES IN TURBOMACHINERY
When addressing new challenges in AM, we strive to deliver complete solutions to our customers that can be implemented within their production. In turbomachinery applications, closed impellers are typically joined by brazing or welding, which limits the tip speed at high operating temperatures.
Magnitude has developed a process for manufacturing closed geometries in AM with supports that cannot be removed and/or finished through traditional means.
The final result is closed surfaces with surface roughness values of Ra < 5 and no subsurface porosity.
Currently, the process is available for Titanium Ti64 applications with Inconel 625 and other alloys in development.
