  • lack of industry standards and high cost of DMLM systems/metal powders causes tests and failures extremely expensive
  • cost cutting can not effect quality of the parts or safety
  • certification of new metal powder providers
  • acquisition of auxiliary equipment (sieves, furnaces, testing equipment)
  • furthermore, there is no single approach to design part for AM. Most often, there are several different ways to additively manufacture the same part, and all of them would be better in one way or another:
    • repeat-ability (risk of job crash)
    • building time
    • powder consumption
    • time required for post-processing (support removal, machining)
